Within days of shutting down my Ludlow Quilt and Sew website, I jetted off to Montenegro for a week of rest and relaxation. My first time there and it really was a magnificent holiday.
We flew to Dubrovnik in Croatia and then took a shuttle bus across the border to Montenegro. Proper borders with passport checks and stamps. We had forgotten what it's like driving across borders outside the European Union. We'll certainly have to get used to it again when Brexit takes place.
The photo at the top shows some of the magnificence of the scenery in Montenegro. This was a church on an island in the Adriatic Sea - a stone's throw from another church on another island, but more of that later.
We walked around the hotel quite a lot - such stunning scenery that we had to keep stopping to admire the views. We used car taxis to get to the nearest towns, but on one day we visited somewhere further up the coast using a boat taxi - that's it in the photo.
On that day we visited a town further round the bay which seemed to be a playground for the rich - huge yachts and very expensive restaurants. In general, the food and drink prices were very low.
Another day we visited a different town and that was enchanting.. I bought a beautiful table cloth that I will treasure from a dear old lady who kept grinning and waving to me as she popped up all over the town while we were exploring.
Obviously I was on the lookout for quilt design ideas and this mosaic really appealed to me.
In the same church I saw this gorgeous floor tile arrangement. Mariners Compass is one of those quilts that I would like to make - when I find the time.
just as beautiful inside.
I hope you've enjoyed this taster of Montenegro - a lovely country that has put its war-torn past behind it and now ranks among the top most peaceful nations in the world.
I am finding my way a bit with this blog - it's a new platform so please forgive me if I make mistakes with it. I would welcome any comments and suggestions on improvements that I could make.
Thanks for visiting.
Rose

Dear Rose, your photos are brilliant and excellent inspiration for considering making a quilt in the future. It was lovely to see photos of and read about Montenegro. I think your blog is an excellent way to keep in touch. Margaret
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Margaret. I was rather afraid that people might be thinking - oh no, not her again!
DeleteRose - For Mariners' Compass, check out Quiltsmart for an easy way to make perfect ones. They offer pre-printed fusible web. I have also done 2 Lone Star quilts using their product. They have two sizes for the Lone Star
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debra. That's a great idea. It would certainly save a lot of time.
DeleteI love you blog. It is very interesting to see the world through your eyes. Seeing the English quilting gives me motivation to keep quilting.
ReplyDeleteHi Marsha. Glad you enjoyed the articles. I'm looking forward to spending more time on my quilting, rather than just sticking to a basic meander quilting.
DeleteWhat a beautiful country Montenegro is. Looks delightfully quiet & peaceful.
ReplyDeleteHope you returned with your batteries recharged.
Christine
